Kayla Day 1 - Hungry, hungry.

MummyLo knew that I won't be able to sleep on your birth day.

Newborn babies almost always will regurgitate mucousy aminotic fluids throughout the night. MummyLo closely monitored Kayla throughout the night to ensure everything is fine.

Kayla slept through the night fine and have decently spaced feeding times.

The next morning was quite different. It seems that the hunger has kicked in and no matter how often the feeding times were, it didn't satisfy this hungry baby.

Granddaddy, Grandmummy Mak, Auntie and cousin Aiden came for a visit and brought MummyLo some much needed nutritious feed.

From 2pm onwards till the next day, MummyLo experienced the worse constant feeding that has lasted for what felt like eternity. MummyLo questioned almost every nurse to check if it is normal to be feeding constantly and was almost unable to put down the baby without crying again for another feed.

By 1pm, MummyLo was exhausted and requested to attempt formula feed just in case little Kayla was deprived of food.

The attempt of formula was unsuccessful. Baby Kayla found it difficult to use the teat on the bottle and didn't take much in.

However, it did buy MummyLo a much needed 45mins of sleep.

That was a night that MummyLo would remember what day 1 newborn was like- and it was considered normal!

Non -stop crying and eating for the whole 24 hours

Kayla Day 0

Kayla Hoi Kay Lo 盧凱琦

Born 30th of July, 2.98kg and 48cm tall.

Expect the unexpected - Kayla's big day (part 2)

Spinal block...

MummyLo has seen it done many times and it was one of my worse fear to have a huge needle poking in the spinal spaces.

The anesthetist was an experienced doctor, not a registrar.

DaddyLo was too scare to look.

Cold antiseptic solution was applied.

Sharp pain from the subcutaneouslocal anesthetic.

One, two, three... Deep breath.

Done. My lower half of the body was filled with warmth then numbness.

Good work, I thought, I faced my worse fear with a fantastic anesthetist.

The hospital staff wheeled me in the operation theatre and prepped me for the cesarean.

After 10 mins of pulling, pushing, tucking and stretching, we were delighted with the birth of Kayla Hoi Kay Lo 盧凱琦. Her entrance to the world was a graceful scene, apart from the sight of her umbilical cord being wrapped around her body and legs several times.

Everyone exclaimed how lucky that she was taken out today.

Welcome to our family, our beautiful girl.

Kayla was looking straight into my eyes minutes after she was born

Crying loudly as she was weigh and cleaned

She measured 47cm and weigh 2.98 Kgs

DaddyLo and Granddaddy Mak had to look after her for the whole hour while Mummylo was being zipped back up. They both said that she was very alert and was staring at them for the whole hour

Expect the unexpected-Kayla's big day (part 1)

Today is Kayla's due date.

Dr Chua the obstetrician has booked in for CTG heart scan to monitor the baby throughout the week.

Granddaddy and Grandmummy Mak came in the morning to have lunch with MummyLo and to drive me to the Westmead hospital.

We had a quick meal at the Kebab shop, little did I know that this will be the last meal that Kayla will have inside me.

Granddaddy Mak dropped me off at the front of the hospital and we have arranged to meet up at around half an hour's time at the same spot.

The CTG was done as usual but I have received responses from nurses that I have never anticipated. MummyLo usually score 100% in all my pregnancy check ups and have perfect size, weight, heart rate, blood pressure etc etc. However, this time the nurse continued to monitor with a concerned look. After half an hour, she finally said to me "the scan isn't looking great".

What does that exactly mean?

Ultimately, they told me that the heart rate showed signs of fetal distress and possible compression of the cord and they will call my obs immediately and sent me to the birth unit.

Dr Chua came to discuss all the possibilities, risks and options. He said he can try to break water to induce labour. Considering the situation, MummyLo felt it is best to have the minimal risk for the baby and going through labour will pose a risk for baby with compressed cord. MummyLo decided to have an emergency casearan instead and it was indeed the best decision that was made.

The only regret was that I had kebab for lunch and was dying from thirst as I was not allow to eat or drink pre-op.

The operation was scheduled for next few hours. MummyLo informed Granddaddy Mak and DaddyLo about the situation. DaddyLo was at work at the time and it must have sent him into a panic mode as he raced to the hospital from the city.

DaddyLo had to scrub and enter the operation theatre with MummyLo.
DaddyLo scrubbed and ready to go into the operation theatre

It was around 4

Awesome Threesome-Daddylo's birthday outing

Jordan's picture of "Our family"

Since there was no sign of our baby girl coming, DaddyLo decided to take us for an outing.

That was our last awesome outing on public transport. We took the tram to the city to catch a ferry to Manly and spent a day at the beach.
