Expect the unexpected-Kayla's big day (part 1)

Today is Kayla's due date.

Dr Chua the obstetrician has booked in for CTG heart scan to monitor the baby throughout the week.

Granddaddy and Grandmummy Mak came in the morning to have lunch with MummyLo and to drive me to the Westmead hospital.

We had a quick meal at the Kebab shop, little did I know that this will be the last meal that Kayla will have inside me.

Granddaddy Mak dropped me off at the front of the hospital and we have arranged to meet up at around half an hour's time at the same spot.

The CTG was done as usual but I have received responses from nurses that I have never anticipated. MummyLo usually score 100% in all my pregnancy check ups and have perfect size, weight, heart rate, blood pressure etc etc. However, this time the nurse continued to monitor with a concerned look. After half an hour, she finally said to me "the scan isn't looking great".

What does that exactly mean?

Ultimately, they told me that the heart rate showed signs of fetal distress and possible compression of the cord and they will call my obs immediately and sent me to the birth unit.

Dr Chua came to discuss all the possibilities, risks and options. He said he can try to break water to induce labour. Considering the situation, MummyLo felt it is best to have the minimal risk for the baby and going through labour will pose a risk for baby with compressed cord. MummyLo decided to have an emergency casearan instead and it was indeed the best decision that was made.

The only regret was that I had kebab for lunch and was dying from thirst as I was not allow to eat or drink pre-op.

The operation was scheduled for next few hours. MummyLo informed Granddaddy Mak and DaddyLo about the situation. DaddyLo was at work at the time and it must have sent him into a panic mode as he raced to the hospital from the city.

DaddyLo had to scrub and enter the operation theatre with MummyLo.
DaddyLo scrubbed and ready to go into the operation theatre

It was around 4

MummyLo was about to face the worse fear of having a spinal block.....
